Spring Break
03:31pm 08/03/2006

mood: excited
I'm eating a hamburger, with time to spare. How did I find this hour? Why am I not rushed? Things seem to be going well. In a few short hours I'll be on the road to Florida for vacation, blissful vacation. (Why is it a hamburger if it's made of beef?) I'm leaving my poor sweet Adam behind (I'll miss you!) and that's not fun, but Brett, Liz, and I should be able to have a decent time at Disneyworld, at least, if not the beach. ;) I want to read a book while I'm there, and if I do that then I should be able to handle the rest of the semester. Everyone please try to survive during my absence. And for your amusement I have included in my post the following short cartoon about spring break:

Little Monsters
07:16pm 04/01/2006
Has anyone ever seen the movie Little Monsters? I was listening to this Talking Heads song "Road to Nowhere" and it made me think of the movie (upon further investigation I discovered that it happens to be the last song on the soundtrack) and I decided I wanted to watch it, so I ordered it for $5 on half.com. woot.

hmmm
07:43pm 27/12/2005
ooo. I'm full. After going to the doctor today and realizing I've lost about 6 pounds this WEEK, I ate alot. ham, mashed taters, green beans, carrots, big glass of milk, big piece of chocolate cake. Now I'm working on a cup of coffee I made with my spiffy french press machine. It tates really good and looks cool too.

I went to the doctor for my follow up visit today, and he said that if the Ear Nose and Throat doctor doesn't say to take out my tonsils, I should seek a secnod opinion. Looks like Courtney's going to have some surgery before school starts again. Lots of pudding for me, eh? And Lots more computer games. I'm progressing rather slowly on the original Mokkey Island game, bad graphics and all. And I finished reading Wide Sargasso Sea today. It was not what I thought it would be...I like the end pretty well, but the rest of it was not the greatness I expected. Karley insists that I read the first Harry Potter book, which she got me for my birthday, so I suppose I will start it next.

I think that the dogs my parents got tot replace me have brought alot of peace to this household. It's still hostile as hell, but better than it could be.

Dear lord, something strange just happened. My parents have decided that we should all play "Scene It." Rachel said, "Who's playing, cause I'm not," and Pat says, "We're having family night." So Rachel, the genius that she is, says, "Well then Jared [her boyfriend] and I are leaving." Why can't she just appease them and get her head out of his ass for a little while. I swear, my siblings just don't know how to choose their battles. Speaking of stupid siblings, I was taking a nap this afternoon, because I didn't sleep well last night at all "at Valerie's" (thanks man!) and Mike comes through after I FINALLY fell asleep, goes in his room (my room is essentially the hallway to his) turns on his tv, leaves his door open, goes out of my room, leaves MY door open, and sits downstairs talking loudly for about an hour. Finally I get pissed, go downstairs and snap at him, and he makes a comment about how I should be sleeping at 3:00. I HAVE F*ING MONO. Oh well.

family game time.

Christmas Loot II
09:01pm 25/12/2005

mood: blah
Place: Home (Maryville, for clarification)
Family involved: dad, step-mother, step-siblings
The haul: A Canon powershot A610 WOOT!!!! with huge ass memory card, batteries and charger, case, software, etc. Also a fleece thingy and a Monty Python DVD set. This camera rocks my world. I can't wait to post lots of stupid pictures of my puppies!

Place: Middlesboro, KY
Family involved: Pat's parents, sister, brother and his girlfriend, his ex-wife and her husband, random redneck cousins and the knocked-up girl who may or may not be engaged to one of them. (I don't ask questions...)
The haul: Two Harlequin Romance paperbacks (Christian dumb-chick lit), a creepy-ish porcelain angel baby sitting beside a cross, a fleece jacket, $15 cash, and a SCARY-ASS babydoll. Yes, a babydoll. porcelain. "collectible." God, I wish the dollar tree wasn't an acceptable place for Christmas shopping. But I'm going to take a picture of this doll....*shudders*

Reflections: DMB Stand Up is adult alterna-jazz. I like solo Dave better. I give it an "eh" on a scale of "suck" to "awesome." Coldplay's X&Y, however, is quite good. Maybe I'm just the type who gets off on ambient music appropriate for long night drives in the rain, but I like it.

Plans: Tomorrow, I am going to order a large pineapple pizza from Domino's. Thin crust. I think my throat is finally ready for it, and I've been craving one for SO LONG. I also have a hankerin' (excuse my Kentuckyisms, they're contagious) for chicken flourentine from the Gondolier, but my broke ass can't go out to eat. Speaking of which, I have to ask dear ol dad for some money tomorrow since I can't work. *sigh* I'm going to list books on half.com.

Christmas Loot, woot!
10:17pm 24/12/2005

mood: nostalgic
Place: Oak Ridge, TN.
Family branch: Dad's mom and stepfather
The haul: some nice socks, earrings, a sweater that doesn't fit, Burt's Bees makeup, Coldplay's X&Y, Dave Matthew's Band Stand Up, Finding Neverland
Additional perks: A huge freakin chocolate cake.

I also got to talk to my cousins tonight...the ones I'm not really related to. Ian and Jyota. We grew up together, and we always spent summers and Christmases making home movies and playing hide and seek in grandma's house. they were in Texas tonight, but it was really good to talk to them, and Ian might come visit this summer.

Adam, Jay, and I had Christmas Thursday night when I got out of the hospital. It was alot of fun, even though I couldn't stay long because I had just gotten out of the hospital and had to be home by 9:30. Jay got a bowl from Adam (if you have to ask what kind, nevermind) and a Jack Daniels flask from me, Adam got a Kershaw Shun chef's knife from me and Jay (which I've been absolutely dying to give him...it rocks) and I also made him a build-a-bear named Jacques in a chef's outfit. He's so cute. Adam got me all the necessary applicances to make coffee using a French press coffee machine, which I had never heard of before. It's really really cool, and alot of fun to use. And Adam make me Christmas pancakes because while I was in the hospital I saw the episode of Family Guy where Stewie gets addicted to pancakes and it made me really want some. Isn't that sweet? I have the sweetest boyfriend ever.

Tomorrow morning we do presents here and then go to the inferno...er, Kentucky.

mood: annoyed
Things that annoy me and make me angry:
1) While I was in the hospital, I got a pancake craving. I expressed this to my stepmother. Yesterday she asks, "Did you find your pancakes? They're in the freezer." I said no, but was looking forward to consuming pre-made pancakes for breakfast this morning. So I got up around 11:30, looked in both the freezers (my family has a nasty habit of overstocking food), and still found no pancakes. So I said to my step-sister, "Rachel, have you seen my pancakes?" She looks blankly and stupidly and fatly at me and replies, "We ate them." oh, yes. It seems that she and he slumber party friends consumed ALL my panckaes yesterday morning. Whores.
2) Then, I'm making oatmeal. I see my dad for the first time today, smile, and say "Good morning." He mumbles a monosyllabic greeting and says, "Why weren't you at church this morning?" He's honestly mad at me for it! they mentioned something SEVERAL DAYS AGO about having church today since tomorrow's Christmas. Then no one said a word about it again. Appareantly my mono-infested ass was supposed to get up at godknowswhen this morning, and go to church without being reminded ONCE. Also, I should have been more prepared to go out and infect old people and children at church. This is apparently important.

I don't know how much longer I can be here. My family had better get some attitude adjustments before going to Grandma's for Christmas tonight. It's my absolute favorite thing and if they ruin it being angry at me I won't forgive them.

Day 1
04:11pm 23/12/2005
The madness is beginning. The people in my house are generally insufferable, but even in my sickness I have no way to escape them...I live in a hallway. You have to go through my room to get to Mike's, and Mike wakes me up as he's going to work graveyard shift at the hospital every night. This in itself is not terrible. What's terrible is that Rachel still has "slumber parties" and had one last night in Mike's room while he was at work, because they are too loud to be above my parents' room. But I suppose it's fine to keep diseased Courtney up most of the night. Bah. and humbug too.

I am bored out of my mind. I want to play sims really badly, because I can absolutely waste HOURS on that, but my sims is in my dorm room and Brett's sims 2 is with him in Clinton. *sigh* I slept 12 hours last night, and then at 1:00 today decided that I needed a nap, so I slept for 2 more hours. I'm a lazy bastard, I am.

What I need: Peace and quiet, a computer game, movies I haven't seen, and an all Desperate housewives, X-files, and CSI channel.

Things that are realistic: Perhaps a few very good friends of mine could come play cards with me???

What's annoying me currently: being under house arrest.

sickness
03:50pm 22/12/2005
Hello world!! I feel like I've been gone forever...I just spent the last two days in the hospital. It turns out my tonsils and lymph nodes are so big because I have both mono and strep throat. woohoo disease cocktail! So I am going to be on the worst kind of house arrest while I am recovering, won't be able to go back to school early, and am not allowed to be out more than 3 hours at a time. UGH. I can't wait to see how this goes. My puppies are about to eat each other (my dad's puppies, that is) so I should go for now, but expect bored, extensive, monotonous updating on the status of my tonsils. woot!

01:06pm 29/11/2005
This is an open apology to everyone I yelled at yesterday because I was angry about the temperature of my room. Sorry.

It was literally 81 degrees in this little cubicle all night. UGH.

Only one week of class left this semester. Where in the world did all the time go? It's been a crazy mess of emotional ups and downs, too much work and too much homework, and I've been hanging on by a thread the whole time. I can't wait to take a break and then start over. To not be behind would be wonderful.

Movies
02:06am 18/11/2005

mood: awake
So tonight was movie night. You may think that going to work would deter this--not at all. I went in for an hour, didn't have a single table, and left. Yeah. So first we watched "High Tension." It was a random pick from blockbuster. It turned out to be the goriest horror movie I ever saw. It was French with English dubbing (because we're Americans, dammit, and we shouldn't have to read the subtitles like everyone else!) and all I can say is...yup, it was a foreign film. Part of me really liked it. No one else did though...One out of five people isn't alot, but I thought it was cool. It had a really interesting twist and some psychological stuff, along with the bloodiest deaths I've ever seen. Then, to brighten the mood, Lainey and I watched Empire Records, which I LOVED. (What's with today today?) And after that the two of us went to Wal-Mart and picked up my pictures. Not only are there pictures from us dying my hair a week ago, there are pictures from my trip to NC in MARCH. Yeah, I need a digital camera. I am completely not tired, so I think I'll see if I can be a bit productive tonight and try to tackle some of this sentence diagramming crap. It's friggin hard. Oh well. It's 2 am and the night is young.
